Friends of Vernham Dean School Parents and Teachers Association (FOSPTA)

The School PTA is referred to as ‘Friends’ and has an aim to provide enhancements for our children’s  education here at Vernham Dean CE Primary School. Friends work mainly in  two ways:

  • The first is by running functions to fund raise
  • Secondly to work with the school to purchase or subsidise items and enhancements to the curriculum

Friends’ Events for 2017/2018 

1st  November Parents Evening – Friends to offer refreshments on this evening and talk to parents regarding the work of the PTA and  encourage new members
8th November Rugby at Vernham Dean, Friends to set up a refreshment stand
9th November Bag2School
17th November Curry Night, Murder Mystery Part 2 in the Village Hall
1st December Jingle and Mingle
11th December Pantomime & Village Hall; Friends to provide ice creams
15th December Governors’ Lunch
24th January Beech Class Bake Off
31st January Young Voices; Friends to buy T-shirts 

Summary of events from academic year 2016 – 2017

During 2016 – 2017 Friends hosted a number of events and fundraising initiatives including:

  • Several School Discos
  • A Murder Mystery Curry Night
  • Christmas Hamper Raffle
  • Summer Mystery Raffle
  • Two  Bags2School events
  • A Quiz Night
  • Giving Machine via internet purchases
  • Beverages at Sports Day and Rugby matches

The money raised benefited all the children by providing the school with a number of items, including:

  • Bean Bags and Rugs for the library
  • A visiting Pantomime
  • BBQ for the Christmas event, ‘Winter Wonderland’
  • Books for the children at Christmas
  • Christmas Lunch cooked by the Governors but financed by Friends
  • Supporting and enhancing writing  by providing  ‘Bake Off’ decorations, supplies and snacks for the children in 5/6 
  • Supporting the Design and Technology Curriculum by purchasing a Cooker, Halogen hobs and cooking equipment
  • Disco Lights
  • Supporting one of the key aims from KS1 and KS2 Music Curriculum of learning to sing and use their voices by subsidising the cost for towards ‘O2 Young Voices’
  • Enhancing a broad and balanced curriculum  such as supporting Chinese New Year, Baking and Pancake Day and Year Six leavers’ events

Quiz Night March 3rd 2017

Our annual Quiz Night will be taking place on Friday 3rd March at 7:30pm in the Village Hall. There will be a fish and chip supper and questions set by the staff. Tickets are £13 and are available from Carol Ward, Jane Pelham, or the School Office


Curry Night Success

The Curry night organised by Carol Ward was a huge success and a grand total of £1578 raised for PTA school funds.  A big thank you to Carol and her team for all their hard work.
